Top Restaurants in Trowbridge

Caffé Italiano Trowbridge -
Caffe’ Italiano is a child friendly, family run Italian restaurant also named by its customers "La piccola Italia" or little Italy. The “mamma”, Nadia, and also chef of the restaurant, first came in England with her husband and two children in 2001. In 2005, with the help of her husband Dino, Mamma Nadia opened Caffe’ Italiano, only a café at the time. Mamma Nadia then converted Caffe’ Italiano into a restaurant in 2006 and she has been running it with her son, Fabio, and her daughter, Debora, ever since. Caffe’ Italiano has a vast choice of home-made dishes, from Panini to selected pastas and pizzas at lunch time to pizzas, pastas, Italian roasts and fish dishes in the evening. Every dish is made with fresh Italian ingredients. Check out the home-made cakes Nadia makes for the restaurant.

The King’s Arms Trowbridge -
In the middle of Trowbridge's bustling town centre, The Kings Arms offers good food, friendly hubbub and a full bar, stocked with good ales. Once nicknamed The Dustbowl, the current owners bought The Kings Arms in 2010. It was shut-down, decrepit on the outside, dank and dirty on the inside. But it still had character. A painful 6-month process of sympathetic renovation restored and revived it to the public house it is today - roomy, airy, welcoming, with the added bonus of a beer garden. With a landlord who takes a personal interest in the grape and his plate, you'll find a carefully picked wine list and food cooked with quality ingredients; there are many home-made dishes on the menu like duck, fajitas and fish pie, alongside pub favourites such as pies, burgers and steak. There is also a large selection of 'light bites'. They also do good coffee.

The Poplars Wingfield, near Trowbridge -
The Poplars is a family run country pub & restaurant, offering delicious home cooked food, a friendly atmosphere & great service. Situated in the lovely Wiltshire village of Wingfield between Trowbridge & Bath, whether you wish to enjoy a quiet drink in the bar or dine in the restaurant, you're always welcome. The restaurant overlooks the garden and cricket pitch and is a more recent addition to the main 18th century Grade II listed building. It can be reserved for private parties, functions, or wedding receptions, catering for up to 32 people seated. Buffets for larger functions such as christenings or funeral wakes can also be catered for. Alternatively dining in the more traditional lounge bar offers a more intimate vibe or take the opportunity to dine 'al fresco' in the beautiful garden (weather permitting). Wherever possible, Head Chef Ben Tanner designs the menus and specials board around locally sourced ingredients and all dishes are prepared to order, while the puddings on the daily desserts board are also all homemade. The pub carries a fine selection of wines from all corners of the globe to complement their menus. While you can be assured your ale will be of the highest quality as they are Cask Marque Accredited and members of the British Institute of Inn Keeping (MBII).

Top Things to do in Trowbridge

Southwick Country Park Trowbridge -
In 1989 Wiltshire Council purchased an area of agricultural land to provide space for leisure. Located on the edge of Trowbridge, this 100-acre site has a distinct rural feel to it. The area consists of several fields, each with its unique atmosphere. A series of paths link the fields, and a gravel circular path provides suitable access for wheelchair users. There is also a network of less formal paths that are mown through the rough grass. This is a popular place for walking and it provides good opportunities for bird watching. The network of hedges, scrub and ditches offers both food and habitat for a wide variety of wildlife. Keep your eyes open for: woodpeckers searching for insects or buzzards soaring above the park, water voles and tadpoles swimming in the waters, or rabbits and the occasional deer grazing on the grass. Volunteers get involved with a number of conservation activities in the country park, and regular work parties take place. If you are interested in volunteering please contact them. There is a small picnic area and light refreshments can be purchased from Squirrels tea-room at Hope Nature Centre within the country park. The animals within the Hope Nature centre provide an added attraction for the family, where goats, alpacas, horses, rabbits and poultry can be seen.

Farleigh Castle, near Trowbridge -
In a beautiful valley of the river Frome, on the border between Wiltshire and Somerset and only nine miles from Bath, stands the remains of Farleigh Hungerford Castle. Started in the 14th century, it still has much for visitors to enjoy and provides a great day out for families with children, couples and even walkers enjoying the beautiful surrounding countryside. This fortified mansion was occupied for 300 years by the remarkable Hungerford family and today their intriguing, yet sometimes gruesome stories are told through graphic interpretation panels and a free audio tour. There are many hidden treasures - the chapel with rare medieval wall paintings and family tombs; extensive displays in the Priest’s house; and for those who are brave enough to enter the crypt, there’s the best collection of human-shaped lead coffins in Britain. Parking for about 30 cars, 100 metres from ticket office. Overflow parking available in the coach car park. The car park is free for visitors to the site only. Visitors with limited mobility can be set down by the shop. Please call in advance.

Trowbridge Today

The town centre is compact, and the focus for shops is the ancient Fore Street; the more modern Shires and Castle Place shopping centres provide a wide variety of outlets. The Shires Gateway, situated by the entrance to the Shires shopping centre car park, was opened in 2009. The civic centre, opened in 2011 and next to the town's central park, is a conference and entertainment venue and is home to the town's information centre as well as Trowbridge Town Council. A nearby leisure development includes an Odeon cinema and several food vendors (Wagamama, Nando's etc.). The former Town Hall, a large Victorian building, is a performance and exhibition venue and is also used by community groups. At Wiltshire College the Arc Theatre is used by students and local groups. There is a concert hall at Wiltshire Music Centre in neighbouring Bradford-on-Avon. Trowbridge is part of the historic West Country Carnival circuit and has also given its name to the Trowbridge Village Pump Festival. The festival was held in the old stable-house of the Lamb Inn public house on Mortimer Street in Trowbridge and was founded by Alan Briars and Dave Newman. Currently the event, renamed Trowbridge Festival, takes place at Stowford Manor Farm between Wingfield near Trowbridge and Farleigh Hungerford in Somerset.
